obsession d'jour
I think we can all agree...
That the 90's are amazing!
This fall the 90's have captured my heart in more ways than one.
From see through lace to black mesh.
From early 90210 style to marc jacob's grunge collection, the nineties had it all.
Not to mention the sexy heroin chic eyes and figure coined by Ms. Moss.

This girl off of hel-looks makes me want to wear florals and crushed velvet evvery day.

Post any exciting or inspirational photos you have of 90's style/culture or just what you are most excited about for the Fall/Winter 09 season. I want to hear about all of your obsessions!

proper introduction comming soon....

Not so bothered about 90s styles coming back now although i do like some of them, but i love reminiscing about 90s cultural stuff and sometimes wish i was about 30 rather than 25 so i could have been slightly older back then, lol.

i don't understand all this nineties-clothing-love, AT ALL. am i the only one??? maybe it's because i had to live through it..

but seriously, am i the only one who recoils at the thought of jeans ending in my waist with a sewn-in-scrunched-up elastic band, so that the jeans poofed out and made your belly look huge? and wearing these ugly-ass jeans with a just-too-short tshirt that showed your belly button, mine of course pierced with a gold dangly tacky navelpiercing?

the horrible color combinations, the over the top prints that hurt your eyes and would make anyone look hideous...?
the shiny synthetic materials, the platform-sneakers with 'spice girls' written on them in glitter, velvet books with fat clunky heels...?
the overgelled hairstyles (in my country, girls wore their hair up tightly with a scrunchy, with two big gelled 'whisps' sticking out of the front), boys with curtains, the 'fake henna' necklaces, blue mascara, huge hoop earrings...?!

how can anybody think this was attractive?
sure, these nineties inspired outfits look cool now because it's retro, and worn by beautiful fashionable looking girls (without a make-up/gaudy jewelery overload) and combined with other styles. and i do admit; the fashion editorial outfits posted in a comment look pretty good as well. but people in real life didn't dress like that (at least not where i come from).

Andreaneverreal on September 24th, 2009 01:50 pm (UTC)
You're not the only one. I love the music, films, etc of the 90s, not the 'fashion'. Especially not parachute pants. I have to repress a shudder at the thought of them...

Fashion for me in this decade - early 90s: bike shorts, big t-shirts, slouch socks, and scrunchies/late 90s: platform sneakers, flare jeans, and smiley faces

The only one of those trends I would like to wear nowadays are flares. I still have a soft spot for the 70s (though not just the hippie subculture, but also the flashy late-70s disco!)

Maybe I was born a few years too late, or the town I lived in was too vanilla suburban, but I really feel I missed out on the best part of the 90s - the swing revival! I wish I would've known more about 90s swing and 90s ska too. I was too busy listening to mainstream pop (Spice Girls, Mariah Carey, early TLC). So now I'm catching up.
