Richard Avedon (1923-2004) is my favourite photographer of all time. I'm honest when I say -I don't think I've ever seen a photo taken by him that didn't fill me with awe.
What are your favourite portrait photographers/photos? I need to expand my knowledge!
Oh, I forgot. My favorite photographer is Annie Leibovitz. What can I say about her? Everything she does is perfect to me... The picture of Yoko Ono and John Lennon that he's naked lying next to her is one of my favorites, but I think I love all her work!
One photography I like is Joel Peter Witkin His photographs are quite disturbing but so interesting at the same time. I'm just a sucker for any daguerreotype photos.
Annie Leibovitz of course. Especially her Olympics portraits she did in the past. Yousef Karsh is very high on my list as well.
But my absolute favorite is Ami Vitale. She is a photojournalist, but borders on the line of portraiture as well. Her is some of her work.
I feel like these don't do her justice though, so I would suggest seeing her website. Her work is no less than brilliant. And being a photojournalism major, my greatest inspiration.

The photo of the models in the slinky dresses sitting/standing on the naked men... what's all that about?
I'm currently loving Tim Walker and I was fortunate to meet him the other day and listen to him speak about his work. Very inspiring.

How the snake crawled up her body and "kissed" her ear, and after that picture, he was done. Because that was the perfect shot.

Another of my favorites is Jock Sturges.
