indie zines & literary mags

Oh noes! 

      

 I'm an aspiring writer looking to be published somewhere - do any of you run or know of any underground zines or literary magazines geared towards an indie audience that I might be able to send my work to?  If not, I'd still be interested to see any of the above that you just happen to enjoy reading.

I know of two magazines (both Australian) that has an indie audience, though they're not literary magazines.

1) Frankie Magazine:

2) http://www.yenmag.net/
I know they take in submissions. There is a contribution section somewhere on the site.

If you haven't already, you can go to independent book stores & check out the range of magazines they have, flip through any that catch your eye & take down the contact details so you can send them your work.

Another suggestion, & this is really random, if you know of any vintage clothing stores, maybe you ask the workers there if they know [of] people who run underground zines. If they are the hip young workers, they could know people & have connections. I know a store in Sydney who know people that work for an indie type of mag & sometimes supply the store with the magazines. Thought it could work for you!

I'm planning/hoping to do the same except with photography. Luckily I've found some not-so-mainstream art magazines that take in submissions.

make yr own zine.
theyre not that hard at all(i just finished mine the other day)and you can put all the work you want into it rather than being limited to maybe just a page or two.

I like your stuff! I'm a part of the poetry committee that goes through poetry submissions for the magazine Carousel, based in Guelph Ontario. It's a mash of poetry, fiction and visuals, and its really quite fabulous, people submit from around the world. One of my friends is working on a wee webzine and I had a look at your writing and it seems great. Although it's only in the tiny stages at the moment she's looking for more people to get onboard. It's called the Adorable Undeads, let me know if you're interested! :)

I don't know any zines; I just wanted to say I really enjoyed the poem on your tumblr. It contained bits that I read over and over because they were so good.

Oh oh that poem is one thing that is not mine. I thought I had the poet's name on there. Her name is Catherine Pierce. It is an amazing poem though!

Publishing opportunity

Hi, I think your writing style could fit in with the vision we have at Tom & Harper, a new newsprint-like magazine we're set to publish at the end of this year. We focus on fashion and culture, with a keen interest in literature. We're Sydney-based for now, and work around a focused theme with each bi-annual issue. This theme in particular has responded well with short fictional works, poetry, prose. We've already collaborated with a few writers for the issue, but we may have a few spaces remaining.
